Nominate Your Favorite Farmers Market

Nominate your favorite Farmers Market, Manager and Farmer to be recognized at the Washington Farmers Market conference!  See attached or go to http://www.wafarmersmarkets.com/conference/awardsnominations.html.

Nomination forms need to be completed and submitted by December 31, 2011.  A committee of WSFMA partners and stakeholders will review the nominations and choose the winners.  Like last year, the WSFMA board will recognize the winners during Farmers Market Week 2012 and work with managers to organize tours and promote shopping at all farmers markets.

Anyone can nominate for any category!   Please think about a market that shines, with a vibrant atmosphere, excellent selection of local produce, a special farmer or a vendor who helps make your market what is it weekly.  If you don’t have the time, ask a friend or a goup of friends to complete the form!

Snohomish Food Bank Needs Help!

Help! We are back to planning for our second big service ~ Christmas. Sadly, we are planning on 500 families.

 

 
If your group can help out, here are our needs:

• Apple sauce: 54 small plastic jars
• Cereal: 80 boxes
• Coffee: 128 small jars
• Condensed Milk: 151 cans
• Evaporated Milk: 83 cans
• Green Beans: 125 cans
• Jelly: 115 jars
• Juice: (64 oz) 220 bottles
• Mandarin Oranges: 348 cans
• Mashed Potatoes: 254 boxes, bags or pouches
• Mushrooms: 233 small cans
• Olives: 415 cans
• Peas: 250 cans
• Syrup: 72 bottles
• Tea: 480 boxes
• Yams: 195 cans

Other items we always accept: open bags of diapers and pet food. We are also asking for small, whole chickens (4 pounders) and hams (4 -8 pounds).

If you can give - great, please call to "reserve" your sponsorship. If you are not able to help in this manner, will you please help spread the word? We will need to have them delivered on or before December 19th, but please pledge in advance, so I will know what we will have to buy! Thank you for your consideration!

Broady took 2nd place in Dog Days at the Snohomish Farmers Market and won Pup cakes from Simply Sweet Cupcakes and a photo by Past and Present Photo.

Music at the Market September 15th

Nikki Schilling is a talented musician who has been singing and performing in the greater Seattle area since she was 5 years old. Nikki discovered jazz singing in high school and after her very first jazz performance won an award as an outstanding vocalist at the 2005 Edmonds Jazz Festival. She went on to win the Ashley Bergman Memorial Scholarship for music performance her senior year in high school. click here to listen  Bring a chair and plan to listen to Nikki during the market this week.
